Looks like regency period perhaps? Perhaps war of 1812? I found the titles of the books on another site, and they have a decidedly wartime theme, and there were very few wars on American soil and each era had certain shapes to the fashions... Civil war would have fuller rounder skirts and lower waistlines, revolutionary war would have had ruffled sleeves and/or wider skirts at the sides, this silhouette has straight skirt and high waist. Definitely bears thinking on! Another thought would be a western theme, there were a good many battles fought out that way too, and simpler dress styles were more prominent.
